Gravity-driven large-scale deformation system in the Tumbes-Guayaquil forearc basin, Northern Andes (Northern Peru-Southern Ecuador)

چکیده

The offshore Tumbes-Guayaquil forearc basin in the accretionary prism of Northern Peru-Southern Ecuador shows evidence gravity-driven large-scale deformation systems active during Late Neogene-Quaternary period. Subsurface data and construction eight structural cross-sections show that ∼8 km-thick Oligocene-Quaternary sedimentary infill is detached seaward completely decoupled from underlying inner systems. Corvina décollement Tumbes Posorja Guayaquil constitute two thin-skinned gravity tectonic associated with kilometer-scale, updip “raft” extensional structures paired downdip fold-thrust (Barracuda Domito thrust systems). Although many previous studies have described stratigraphic architecture basin, no model explicitly accounts for this anomalous tectonics. We propose style, more commonly observed passive continental margins, primarily controlled by combination tectonostratigraphic features, including crustal-scale transtensional related to oblique convergence along Andean margin, basal slope tilting, strong sediment accumulation, presence overpressured shales.

A Review on Tectonic Record of Strain Buildup and Stress Release across the Andean Forearc along the Gulf of Guayaquil-Tumbes Basin (GGTB) near Ecuador-Peru Border

Gravimetric and geologic data show that the reactivation of the Neogene Interandean depression and/or the ~75 65 Ma ophiolite suture into the modern dynamic of the Andes controlled the Gulf of Guayaquil Tumbes basin (GGTB) location and evolution during the past 1.8 1.6 Myr at least. Depending on whether the remobilization occurred along the interandean depression or the ophiolite suture, the GG...

Andes Hantavirus Variant in Rodents, Southern Amazon Basin, Peru

We investigated hantaviruses in rodents in the southern Amazon Basin of Peru and identified an Andes virus variant from Neacomys spinosus mice. This finding extends the known range of this virus in South America and the range of recognized hantaviruses in Peru. Further studies of the epizoology of hantaviruses in this region are warranted.

Shadows of the colonial past – diverging plant use in Northern Peru and Southern Ecuador

This paper examines the traditional use of medicinal plants in Northern Peru and Southern Ecuador, with special focus on the Departments of Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Cajamarca, and San Martin, and in Loja province, with special focus on the development since the early colonial period. Northern Peru represents the locus of the old Central Andean "Health Axis." The roots of traditional heal...

Holocene faulting in the Bellingham forearc basin: Upper-plate deformation at the northern end of the Cascadia subduction zone

[1] The northern Cascadia forearc takes up most of the strain transmitted northward via the Oregon Coast block from the northward-migrating Sierra Nevada block. The north-south contractional strain in the forearc manifests in upper-plate faults active during the Holocene, the northern-most components of which are faults within the Bellingham Basin. The Bellingham Basin is the northern of four b...

Cryptic species diversity in marsupial frogs (Anura: Hemiphractidae: Gastrotheca) in the Andes of northern Peru.

Molecular phylogenetic analysis revealed the existence of two undescribed species of the hemiphractid genus Gastrotheca in the Andes in northern Peru. Both species are similar morphologically to Gastrotheca dysprosita and G. monticola, but they differ from these species and from one another in subtleties of coloration and minor variances in size and proportions. Gastrotheca aguaruna sp. nov. (6...
